Artist Bio

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved drawing and animals, especially horses. As a child, not only did I draw on paper, but on the undersides of tables and chairs. I am guilty of adding artistic flourishes to the interior of my parents’ car. This was discovered when they went to trade in my “masterpiece”. I was, at most, 4 years old at the time. My medium of choice was crayon.
I am primarily a self-taught artist, with the exception of high school and college elective courses. My love of animals led me to earn a B.S. degree in Animal Science at the University of Connecticut.I played intercollegiate polo, which led me west to California in 1987. I trained and groomed polo ponies for over a decade. During those years, I rode by day and drew by night.
I draw horses because I love them. It’s that simple. My art is my way of honoring what I feel for them. I draw what catches my interest. Since we are all complex beings with many facets, I do not limit my subject matter. I am curious. Therefore, I explore. This led me to discover that I can paint a life-sized polo player statue (located at El Dorado Polo Club, Indio, CA); I can draw chrome on motorcycles and cars; and that I can draw tattoos (who knew?).
The challenge of the subject matter is part of the excitement to draw. The execution and creation of the work is my peace of mind. My talent is a gift from God; I am simply the tool. The finished work is my gift to share with others.
My choice of medium is graphite pencil. It’s basic and simple, yet achieves incredible results. Color pencil and pen and ink are favorites, also.
And to think…..it all started with crayons.
