Hand Illustrated Stoneware Pottery
The exploration of form and color, surface treatment and finish are central to my daily practice. I love how one small change can affect the entire feel of a piece. I find exploration of my medium and the multitude of possible endings central to what I do and important for my further growth as a potter. Ultimately, though, I do what I do because I have to. I am drawn to clay and feel as if I am missing something when I am away from it. My work is one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done.
I have been working with clay for 15 years and have found so many ways to play in clay. My recent work represents some of my strongest and I am finding great satisfaction in what I pull from the kiln. Making functional pieces was something I came to over time but am now quite happy with.
The idea that I am making an object that becomes incorporated into the daily ritual of another is very satisfying and amazing. That my work could bring a smile or moment of calm and enjoyment...this is what I strive for.
All my pieces are created by hand with no molds or forms, the designs are hand painted and carved then they are fired to cone 5/6 or approx. 2200degrees in my electric kilns. All studio processes are completed by me in my home studio all while wrangling kids, dogs, a parrot and my awesome husband.
